🏔️🦅 Three Things Every Parent Should Know Before Their Next IEP Meeting
Most parents walk into IEP meetings thinking they need to “convince” the team.
You don’t.
Here are three truths that change everything:
1️⃣ You are not just invited — you are a required member of the team.
Under IDEA, parents are equal participants in IEP decisions. Your voice is not a courtesy. It’s protected.
2️⃣ Preparation reduces emotion.
When you walk in knowing:
Your child’s present levels
The goals you want clarified
The accommodations you’re requesting
The data you want reviewed
You shift from reactive to strategic.
3️⃣ Clear communication protects progress.
Follow up meetings with written summaries.
Document concerns.
Ask clarifying questions.
Stay solution-focused.
Advocacy is not confrontation.
It’s informed, steady collaboration.
And confidence doesn’t come from personality — it comes from preparation.
If you’re feeling unsure about how to prepare for meetings, understand your rights, or communicate clearly with school staff, that’s exactly why we created the Falcon Sky Advocacy Training Guide.
It walks you through:
✔️ Understanding IDEA & Section 504
✔️ Building advocacy confidence
✔️ Preparing before, during, and after meetings
✔️ Communicating clearly and professionally
✔️ Using documentation as a tool — not a weapon
Because when you know the structure, you show up differently.

New to the IEP Process? Here's your Beginner's Guide!
If your child has just been:
• Referred for evaluation
• Found eligible for services
• Scheduled for their first IEP meeting
You may be wondering…
What does all of this actually mean?
That’s why we created Inside the IEP: A Beginner’s Guide — a clear, practical roadmap for families at the very beginning of their special education journey.
Inside this guide, you’ll learn:
✔️ The laws that protect your child (IDEA, FAPE, LRE, Section 504)
✔️ What each section of an IEP actually means
✔️ How the evaluation → eligibility → IEP timeline works
✔️ What services, goals, and accommodations should look like
✔️ How progress is monitored
✔️ When and how you can request changes
✔️ What discharge from special education really means
This is not legal jargon.
It’s plain-language guidance designed to help you feel informed, steady, and prepared.
Because the beginning matters.
When you understand the structure of the IEP, you show up differently — and that changes conversations.

We had to jump on this trend.
We look forward to helping you on the IEP journey
Silence Is a Strategy
One of the hardest lessons I learned.
In public schools, silence is sometimes used to slow things down.
Missed emails.
Delayed meetings.
Verbal promises with no follow-up.
IDEA sets timelines for evaluations, meetings, and services.
Delays can violate the law, even when no one says no directly.
What you can do next:
1. Put everything in writing
2. Ask for timelines
3. Reference IDEA when delays happen
If you feel your child’s school is ignoring you, contact us and we can help either next steps
Here is why “waiting” can be a problem.
Pediatricians are experts in general child health. They are not trained to evaluate speech, language, or communication development in depth. Speech and language specialists are.
Some delays do not usually fix themselves without support. Waiting can mean lost time during critical brain development years.
Here’s what you can do:
1. Contact a speech-language pathologist for an evaluation or consultation.
2. If your child is under 3, request an Early Intervention evaluation.
3. If your child is 3 or older, request a school-based evaluation in writing.
