For many who graduate high school, college is not in their plans because of finances, but a local businessman's generosity has changed the lives of several young adults who recently became Morris College graduates.

Four years ago in 2022, Morris alumnus and Universal Benefits Inc. Founder and CEO James "Ted" Wilson Sr. established a four-year, full scholarship program at his alma mater and nine students are newly minted graduates of the college, and some spoke recently on their gratitude for the opportunity.

HISTORY. LEGACY. EXCELLENCE
The campus of Morris College was alive with pride, celebration, and the vibrant spirit of Hornet Nation during the unforgettable 115th Annual Commencement Ceremony.
With cheers resonating throughout the venue, 85 graduates crossed the stage, marking the culmination of years of hard work, perseverance, sacrifice, and determination. Each graduate embodied the legacy of excellence that defines Morris College and the bright future awaiting the Class of 2026.
The powerful commencement address by the remarkable Dr. Karrianna Bryant inspired graduates to walk boldly in their purpose, lead with integrity, and harness the power of their voices and influence. Her words ignited passion within graduates and attendees alike, leaving a profound impact on everyone present.
In a fitting tribute to this momentous occasion, Morris College conferred honorary doctorates upon three distinguished leaders:
- Dr. Janet Smith Kingwood β€” Doctor of Humane Letters
- Dr. Larry E. Rivers β€” Doctor of Letters
- Dr. Karrianna Bryant β€” Doctor of Divinity
These extraordinary individuals were recognized for their outstanding leadership, scholarship, ministry, service, and transformative impact on communities across the nation.
The ceremony also highlighted the prestigious Presidential Elevation Award, presented to two remarkable leaders whose dedication and service elevated the mission and legacy of Morris College: Dr. Phillip Baldwin and Dr. Kenny Rose ’85
One of the most emotional and transformative moments came with a historic announcement from devoted alumnus James V. β€œTed” Wilson β€˜70, who gave a remarkable $500,000 gift to his beloved alma mater. This extraordinary act of generosity will strengthen Morris College's future and create lasting opportunities for generations of Hornets.
Through powerful speeches, heartfelt recognition, and unforgettable acts of generosity, the 115th Annual Commencement was not just a ceremony; it was a celebration of strength, resilience, and the enduring excellence of Morris College.

πŸ’™πŸ’› Congratulations to the Morris College Class of 2026! The future is bright, and the Hornets are ready to soar!
