Reading is even more exciting with a flashlight! Mrs. Ashley Bateman’s kindergarten students enjoyed a special Friday Fun Reading activity as they used flashlights to read “The Five Senses in Autumn.” The creative twist on reading added a little adventure to the classroom while helping students strengthen their reading skills. Fun activities like these encourage curiosity, build confidence, and foster a lifelong love of reading.

Three students were recognized at the Sumter County 4-H Achievement Banquet. Mary Foley received the prestigious Silver Award for outstanding leadership and service, Jane Foley earned a medal for her achievements in Environmental Science, and Kira Stelle received a medal for leading the Cooking Like a Chef Camp. WH’s 4-H Club is advised by Dr. Cindy Foley & Mr. Chris Stelle.

Bringing classroom learning to life beyond campus, our freshmen visited the Anne Frank Center at USC in conjunction with their reading of Elie Wiesel's memoir Night. Through historical exhibits and a recreation of the Secret Annex, students deepened their understanding of the Holocaust and built upon their seventh-grade study of The Diary of Anne Frank. Students also spent time exploring the USC campus through a scavenger hunt. The trip was another example of how WH connects classroom studies with meaningful educational experiences beyond campus.

Our preschool students enjoyed a special visit from the Lugoff Fire Department during Fire Prevention Week! They learned about fire safety, explored firefighting equipment, and especially loved seeing the fire truck up close. Among the visiting firefighters was Lt. Jeremy Tidwell, a Wilson Hall parent. The visit was a wonderful opportunity for our youngest students to learn from community members who help keep us safe.

The boys swim team finished third at the SCISA 4A State Championship, winning four gold medals, breaking six school records, and concluding the season with an impressive 65-3 record. Jacob Hewett was named the 4A boys’ overall high-point swimmer, winning individual state championships in the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke. Ryan Brown tied for second overall and won the state championship in the 50-yard freestyle. Jacob and Ryan joined J.T. Reimer and Ethan Wilson to win gold in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Grandparents are an important part of the WH community. Mrs. Jane Morrical visited her grandson Simon Kimber’s kindergarten class as a Mystery Reader, sharing one of Simon’s father’s childhood books and bringing edible treats inspired by The Cat in the Hat. With Simon’s parents deployed since last spring, his grandparents have come from Texas to care for him and his younger sister, Harriet, a Preschool 3 student. Their involvement is a wonderful example of the many ways extended family members support our students and enrich our school community.

Rainy weather couldn't dampen the fun as a record 242 students and guests gathered in the Nash Student Center for the Homecoming Semiformal. Sponsored by the Student Council, the evening featured music from a professional DJ with Partytime Entertainment, dancing, laughter, and plenty of time with friends. Events like these are an important part of the Wilson Hall experience, giving students opportunities to socialize, strengthen friendships, and make lasting memories.

WH’s alumni continue to make a lasting difference for the generations that follow. During the Class of ’81 reunion, the H.L. Turner Engineering Wing was dedicated in recognition of Hal Turner ’81 and his generous support of the school’s engineering & robotics programs. Classmate Mike Williams, a nationally renowned artist, was also recognized for donating a painting now displayed in the Arts Building. The evening was a meaningful celebration of alumni connection, generosity, and the lasting impact of giving back.
