Sumter County First Steps

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Artrell Brown. Artrell was a fierce advocate for children and her community. She was a charter member of the Sumter County First Steps Board and very instrumental in creating a strong foundation beginning in 1999. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers.

As the executive director for Sumter County First Steps, I receive countless calls every week with working families needing assistance with quality childcare.

The lack of scholarships/ABC vouchers availability will negatively impact prior investments in workforce development.

Some families are now faced with continuing to work to just pay for childcare or to stop working and remain at home.

This is another issue that our state legislature should make a priority.

To cover child care costs, parents are adjusting their daily schedules and employment status. https://www.wspa.com/news/its-heartbreaking-south-carolina-families-lose-childcare-assistance-as-abc-vouchers-expire/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook_WSPA_7News
