What’s one of the most important tools for a biologist? A microscope.

Honors Biology headed to the lab today to get an up-close look at the microscopic world. Students examined a variety of specimens—from tissues like the appendix and tonsils to blood cells and hair—while practicing important microscope skills such as locating specimens, focusing correctly, and identifying microscopic structures.

There were plenty of “oohs” and “ahhs” as students mastered the technique and finally brought their samples into focus. Some even captured some pretty cool images through the microscope using their cell phones. Hands-on learning makes science come to life.

This summer, North Pike High School senior Harmoni Wanzo took her passion for medicine and health care to the next level by participating in Envision’s National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Advanced Medicine & Health Care. Harmoni joined other aspiring future health care professionals for this pre-college experience, with the 2026 Washington, D.C., sessions hosted at Georgetown University.

We are proud of Harmoni for pursuing opportunities that prepare her for her future and for representing North Pike High School with excellence.
