Mrs. Rowe’s Physical Science students investigated the states of matter this week through an engaging Oobleck investigation. Students explored whether Oobleck should be classified as a solid or a liquid. They began by researching Oobleck using a short video and an article about non-Newtonian fluids. Students then designed their own laboratory procedures and created a sample of Oobleck to test their ideas. Using their observations and evidence, they developed reasoning to answer the guiding question: Is Oobleck a solid or a liquid?

📢 EARLY RELEASE NOTICE – AUGUST 27 & 28
Attention Students, Parents, and Staff:
All Chattooga County Schools will release students early on Thursday, August 27, and Friday, August 28, to allow for traffic clearance from Summerville Middle School in preparation for the Chattooga County Fair events.
Important Details:
🕐 Early Release Time: 1:30 PM
🍽️ Lunch will be served as usual before dismissal.
🏫 All after-school activities and programs will continue as scheduled.

2027 Yearbooks on sale now!

Mrs. Rowe's Physical Science classes have begun the year with a series of investigations to review key scientific topics, including lab safety, measurements, and lab equipment use. Students began by predicting the purpose of different lab equipment and personal protective equipment. Next, students used laboratory equipment to measure different aspects of our classroom and completed a density scavenger hunt in the hallway.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT – Chattooga County School
Due to downed trees and power lines in the area that have resulted in a power outage at Lyerly School all Chattooga County Schools will operate on a 2 hour delay. While the estimated timeline for power to be restored is school start time, breakfast will not be ready and our buses need light to see to pass roads that are affected.
ALL Chattooga County Schools will operate on a 2 hour delay today, Friday, August 21, 2026.
We appreciate the understanding of our Chattooga School families and staff as crews work to address the outage. Please stay safe when traveling in areas affected by downed trees and power lines.

Mrs. Rowe's Chemistry class began the school year with a series of investigations. These investigations included determining if the classic Coke and Mentos lab is an example of a physical or chemical change. SPOILER ALERT: it is a physical change. Additionally, students participated in a dimensional analysis scavenger hunt around the hallway.
