The sun is shining and it’s a great day for some great news! ☀️
This little boy is an ESL learner who knew only a few letters of the English alphabet. After about 3 months of working, his family finds out he’s been accepted into his school of choice for Kindergarten. 🙌

My Kindergartner wrote an unprompted story about his little brother. To some, this might look chaotic with many misspellings. From a reading teacher perspective, I see so many wonderful things: Writing from left to right, using his sounds to determine the spelling, and finally his enjoyment of writing about something that makes him excited. Progress over perfection. ♥️
“One day, there was two brothers. Ollie and Jack. They were having a chocolate after school. They were at their grandma’s house”.

Future reader coming June 2024!
I will not be planning to tutor this summer as I typically do to allow our family to adjust to becoming a family of 4. However, check in for updates and teaching content. 📚

I think it’s possible that I might be onto something here… 🎊🎊
I sent my clients a 3 page assessment stating HOW and WHY I came to the conclusion that this child should not be held back. It worked! Or at least it helped. ♥️

Let's talk tutoring vs. reading therapy!
-Reading therapy is a curated lesson plan to meet the needs of the student. Many variables are considered when creating a lesson plan: IEP, formal testing from psychologist, informal assessments, errors made from previous lessons.
-Tutoring follows a set curriculum or follows child's homework or state standards.
-Reading therapy follows its own scope and sequence which builds upon each concept. Often times this means we work on concepts the student is not currently working on at school. This is because the child may have severe gaps in reading. These gaps need to be addressed before the child can read what might be considered "on grade level".
Standard reading tutoring is not bad! Some kids may just need a little extra support with homework or extra practice with fluency. However, if your child is having severe issues and reading just doesn't seem "to click" as easily, reading therapy might be what is best.

Rashan Gary, 2019 1st round draft pick and star pass rusher for the Green Bay Packers, is dyslexic. He says that dyslexia is not a disability but rather a different ability. He’s also mentioned that his dyslexia helps him on the field. Gary says he is able to quickly narrow down opponents’ potential plays based on their personnel and scheme tendencies - And he attributes this to his dyslexia.
"Dyslexia had a positive effect on my life. It gave me the push to go above and beyond all my life, As a #1 overall recruit, 1st round NFL draft pick, Business owner and soon college graduate. I am Dyslexic, if you're , sky's the limit for us equally." Rashan Gary
Dyslexia isn’t a limitation for Rashan Gary. It’s a superpower. #MadeByDyslexia #MyCauseMyCleats #LearnDyslexia

It’s report central over here! I’m taking data from formal testing & IEP’s and looking at a child’s specific strengths and weaknesses. From here I’ll be able to curate solid lessons that target to her weaknesses. And yes, that’s a slice of cake. Everyone deserves to eat cake when they are analyzing data…
