Been awhile.

🇺🇸 A shaving horse—also known as a drawhorse or shave bench—is a manual wooden clamping device used in green woodworking, particularly when working with a drawknife or spokeshave to shape wood.

A shaving horse combines three functions in one tool:

A workbench

A foot-operated clamping mechanism

A seat

This makes it a highly stable and responsive workstation for shaping long or narrow stock.

MAIN COMPONENTS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS

1. Rotating Crossbar

Serves as the clamping jaw that presses and holds the workpiece.

Its rotating action allows it to conform naturally to the shape of the wood.

Equipped with a leather pad to improve grip and prevent surface damage.

2. Leather Pad

Provides a soft yet secure gripping surface.

Protects the wood from clamp marks or dents.

WORKING PRINCIPLE
