Hello Summerland School families and happy 20-21 school year!

We are writing with some information to share:

In a parent advisory meeting with Superintendent Rigby on Thursday, September 3rd, she shared an update:

CUSD will be presenting a TK-6 waiver at the 9.15.20 special school board meeting, which will allow TK-6 grade CUSD students to attend school in person in the originally planned hybrid model. CUSD will submit the waiver the next day: on 9.16.2020 to Santa Barbara Public Heath.

The waiver format (requirements) is very similar to the reopening plan found on the CUSD website. The only addition is a plan to test 25% of staff at intervals. CUSD has entered into a contract with Merso to do this testing.

For those who want to support CUSD in submitting the waiver, the school board meeting is scheduled for 9.15.2020. To provide support or express concern for this plan, email our CUSD Board members or email [email protected] by 3 pm on 9.15.20 to publicly comment during the virtual board meeting.

The superintendent anticipates opening TK-6 grades in the hybrid model on 10.1.2020 following a 14 day period for review of the waiver by Santa Barbara Public Health.
