Our founder, Candice, was featured on McDonald’s and Entrepreneur Lab’s LiberatED podcast, as part of the new Microschool Makers series made possible by KaiPod Learning!

In this clip, she shares the story behind Hilton Horizons Academy, what inspired her to open its doors, and how her experience as both a classroom teacher and a parent revealed the gaps in traditional education.

From the first spark of an idea, Hilton Horizons was built on connection, flexibility, and individualized learning. We’ve continued to build on that foundation by expanding into a fully accredited private school, now offering both a full-time private school track and our flexible hybrid options to serve even more families throughout our region.

We’re so proud to see Candice sharing the Hilton Horizons story and helping more families discover that education was never meant to be one-size-fits-all! 🌱📚

We love field trip days! 🍂🐾 We had the absolute best time exploring Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium, learning all about the local animals and their habitats. Of course, no field trip is complete without a picnic lunch and plenty of play time together! 🥪☀️

A huge thank you to the staff and team at Bays Mountain for hosting us for such a wonderful day of learning and fun!

🌾✨ Fall Learning in Full Swing at Hilton Horizons Academy!

Our scholars started the week with an engaging, hands-on dive into autumn traditions, science, and math:

🌕 Storytime & Harvest Moon: We discussed the weekend's glowing Harvest Moon and read Possum’s Harvest Moon—a sweet seasonal tale about forest creatures, like fireflies and crickets, getting ready to rest for the long winter ahead.

🌽 The Three Sisters: Students explored the Indigenous agricultural wisdom of companion planting, learning how corn, beans, and squash support one another as they grow.

🎨 Beaded Indian Corn: Creating colorful corn allowed students to put fundamental developmental and math concepts into practice, strengthening fine motor control (essential for handwriting) while applying patterning, sequencing, and counting.

When learning is tactile and intentional, core concepts stick!

Lighting up Tennessee History!✨

Did you know the lightning bug is one of Tennessee's official state insects? Chasing fireflies across East Tennessee hillsides is a timeless mountain tradition, and our students brought this heritage to life by combining art, science, and folklore to craft their own glowing paper lanterns!

Appalachian Folklore: Connecting local storytelling to East Tennessee's natural history.

Hands-On Science: Exploring the biological magic behind our official state insect's bioluminescent glow.

Interactive Art: Engineering illuminated paper fireflies that lit up the room!

Pure magic watching their creations glow in the dark!✨
