Our newest class of nursing students recently participated in the Hands of Caring Ceremony, a special tradition that welcomes families into the nursing journey and highlights the important role their encouragement and support play along the way.

The ceremony concluded with families placing a hand on their student, creating a meaningful symbol of support and unity as they begin this next chapter together.

Congratulations to Dr. Raji Pillai on her recent publication in the Journal of Public Health Research! 🎉

Her study explores the cultural and social factors that influence physical activity among middle-aged South Asian women in the U.S. who are at risk for type 2 diabetes. The findings highlight the importance of culturally responsive approaches, including family, community and social support, in helping improve health outcomes.

Investing $750,000 in the future of nursing. 🩺💙
The Andy & Barbara Gessner College of Nursing at the University of Houston has received a $750,000 Nursing Innovation Grant from the State of Texas to advance clinical education, technology and faculty expertise.
As part of UH Health, the grant will help strengthen the connection between education, innovation and community impact.
While Texas continues to face a growing demand for skilled nurses, UH Health is helping prepare the next generation of healthcare leaders.

Dr. Pillai and Dr. Brohard recently attended the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) conference in Oklahoma. The conference centered around enhancing best practices in healthcare simulation and fostering global collaboration and innovation. We can’t wait to learn about all of the new ways our nursing education is improving!

The University of Houston is launching the Institute for Digital Healthcare Transformation, a university-wide research endeavor that is dedicated to developing next-generation technologies to improve healthcare access, delivery and patient outcomes.

Operating under UH Health, the University’s new academic health enterprise, the Institute brings together cross-disciplinary expertise in engineering, medicine, natural sciences, computer science, business, law, public policy and other disciplines. By bridging research, education, clinical care and industry, the Institute will accelerate the development of groundbreaking digital health innovations and, through a new venture studio, will help UH researchers turn discoveries into real-world medical solutions that reach patients quicker.
