Next week (May 2 - May 6) is Teacher Appreciation Week and we LOVE to celebrate our hard-working teachers and staff!

We encourage you to do something sweet for your child's teacher(s) such as writing a card, picking some flowers, or just sending some love their way.

Mr. Wright serves as the Assistant Principal of Operations at KIPP Journey Primary in Houston, Texas. Before joining KJP, Mr. Wright served as an APO in Residence and Interim Assistant Principal of Operations at IDEA Public Schools in Austin, Texas, Advanced Placement Social Studies Teacher at KIPP Houston High School, as well as secondary institutions in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mr. Wright earned his Bachelors Degree in Afro Latin/Caribbean & African American Studies, and Political Science (Pre-Law) as well as a minor in Spanish/Ethnic Studies from East Carolina University. He is currently working on his Masters in Educational Leadership and Certificates in Urban Education and Public Policy at Liberty University. Mr. Wright is an outstanding member of the 2021-22 UpLift Black Male Educators Cohort, NAACP Award, and a Brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. When Mr. Wright isn’t working with our KJP Faculty and Scholars, he enjoys reading, social justice advocacy and traveling.

Ashley Monteil is the founding school leader of KIPP Journey Primary in Houston, Texas. Before joining the KIPP Team and Family, Ms. Monteil was a teacher in the Houston Independent School District (HISD) for six years where she taught second and fourth grade. She joined KIPP as a founding Assistant Principal at KIPP CONNECT Primary where she served for four years. Ms. Monteil attended The American University in Washington, D.C., where she earned a Bachelor of Art in Literature. Since her career as an educator began, she has earned a Master’s of Education from the University of St. Thomas, a Master’s of Business Administration from Rice University, and received recognition for her passionate teaching and leadership as the HISD Teacher of the Year in 2012. When she is not leading our school, she enjoys running and every moment she is able to spend outdoors with her dog, Max.
