It’s Construction Week at Montessori Reggio Academy®!
As part of our Community Helpers Month curriculum, our young engineers are discovering that every great structure begins with a strong foundation.
Through this hands-on STEAM engineering challenge, students investigated how foundations, support beams, base width, and structural design affect a building’s strength and stability. Using paper cups and craft sticks, they compared unsupported structures with reinforced designs before putting their creations to the test against weight, movement, simulated wind, shaking, and even a classroom “wrecking ball.”
The real learning happened through the engineering design process: build, test, observe, problem-solve, redesign, and try again. Students explored concepts including force, balance, stability, load distribution, structural support, and cause and effect while developing critical-thinking and collaboration skills.
At Montessori Reggio Academy®, STEAM education means giving children opportunities to think like real engineers, not simply learning how something works, but experimenting, questioning, designing, and discovering why.
Because whether we’re building a skyscraper or building a child’s educational foundation, a strong beginning makes all the difference.
