Dear families,

With STAAR season fast approaching, we'd like to offer some tips to help our students prepare!

Here are simple, proven test-taking strategies we teach our students:

✅ Read the question first.
Before reading the passage, know what you’re looking for.

✅ Underline key words.
Words like not, best, most likely, and except completely change answers.

✅ Answer what’s asked —not what you think they’re asking.
Stay literal. STAAR rewards precision.

✅ Process of elimination is powerful.
If you can eliminate 2 wrong answers, you can choose the right one more easily.

✅ Show your work in math.
Even if you can do it mentally, writing it out prevents careless errors.

✅ Check for trap answers.
If it seems too easy, double-check it. STAAR often has subtle trick answers.

✅ Manage your time.
Don’t get stuck on one question. Mark it, move on, come back.

Most importantly:
Confidence comes from preparation. Preparation comes from consistent, focused practice.

The Tutoring Center Sugar Land will be open Monday, 2/16 on Presidents' Day for our regular hours. Any students regularly scheduled for Mondays who cannot attend their lessons will receive a make-up. We look forward to serving you!

The Tutoring Center Sugar Land will be closed due to weather on Monday 1/26. We plan to resume sessions as normal Tuesday 1/27, pending any official updates recommending otherwise. Any students regularly scheduled for lessons on Mondays will receive a make-up, unless the lesson has already been re-scheduled for another date. 5 Study Tips to ACE your Winter Exams!

1. Make a study schedule - Give yourself time to prepare so you can study each section and item carefully.

2. Use an active recall method - It is important for studying to be understanding rather than memorizing. Saying material out loud allows for better understanding.

3. Visualize the material - It is important to make studying personalized to your preferred method. Using a visual aspect can allow better focus.

4. Eliminate ALL distractions - Cellphones, music, and television, etc. are all examples of distractions, try to create and environment that creates focus.

5. Utilize the people around you - Ask friends, family, and even teachers for help. Your esteemed instructors here at TTCSL have been on the journey of.
