What does “Casa dei Bambini” mean?
Casa dei Bambini is Italian for “Children’s House.”
On 6 January 1907, Dr. Maria Montessori opened the first Casa dei Bambini in the San Lorenzo district of Rome, Italy.
The children were provided with a carefully prepared environment, including child-sized furniture and materials for purposeful activities. Through her observations, Maria Montessori recognised the children’s remarkable capacity for concentration, independence and self-directed learning.
What began with the first Casa dei Bambini in San Lorenzo went on to become the foundation of a worldwide Montessori movement 🌎💕
