Quick tip for finding cash for college: Start the process of getting merit-based financial aid early! Here are three reasons why:
1) You'll need to research good-fit scholarships.
2) Raising your GPA and ACT/SAT scores requires a plan and takes time!

College costs may have risen 79% from 2008-2022, but that doesn't have to mean a good education is out of reach! Take the time to research scholarships - academic and otherwise! It might take time and effort to boost your GPA and test scores, but it can really pay off.

Happy Star Wars Day! Random ACT Grammar example from one of my sessions last week:
"Covered in extreme amounts of hair, Luke almost got his arm ripped off by a Wookiee."

To a lot of students, this looks correct, or perhaps it feels a little off, but they aren't exactly sure why. This is a misplaced modifier, and "covered in extreme amounts of hair" needs to move to the end of the sentence next to the noun it modifies. As is, it means Luke needs to shave!

Many parents think of the SAT and ACT as tools for getting into college, but it's just as effective at paying for college!

The average cost of college is high, and it's been rising for decades. If you're feeling the squeeze in your wallet as you think about funding higher education, you're in good company. Between 2008 and 2022, in-state tuition among major public universities grew 79%. Tuition alone averages $43,775 fo...

One of my former students, Davis, is such a testament to perseverance! He came to me in the fall and asked if I would work with him just on the verbal sections of the ACT - English and Reading. He had a previous math tutor who planned to help with the ACT Math section. Unfortunately, she wasn't as accustomed to ACT prep, and so his Math score lagged his other scores. They decided to give it one more try in the spring, and I was able to help him get his math score up to match his other scores. He ended up with a 34 Composite! Way to go!!!!!!

Ansley's story is absolutely amazing. She overcame the pressure of not being sure she could afford college at all to land a fantastic scholarship! The key for her was different than you might expect - learning to relax.
