Good evening Lakeland Family, it is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved teacher and coach... Stephen Leon "Steve" Wood! He passed on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at Mt. Mission Church in Blacksburg, VA. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. A private interment will be held.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at New Hope Baptist Church, 255 Union Mill Rd, LaCrosse, VA 23950.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made “In Memory of Steve Wood” to Crossroads Christian School, P.O. Box 249, Henderson, NC 27536.

Please pray for the family during this difficult time! We the Lakeland family loved and cherish Mr. Woods during his time as a teacher and coach! We appreciate every moment from the classroom to the wrestling team and football team!

Lakeland High School Football is built on the foundation of those who came before—the players who gave their all on the field, wore the Cavalier colors with pride, and set the standard for what it means to be a Lakeland football player.

Today, we stand on their shoulders. In recognition of our past players and the traditions they created, we are launching a special Fundraiser to Honor the Legacy of Lakeland Football.

We are creating a special banner highlighting our past players—a lasting tribute to the men who laid the foundation for Lakeland Football. Please submit your full name, jersey number, and graduating year to Coach Eric Knight .
