Our First-Time Riders event was a success! We loved seeing so many smiling faces eager to hop on the school bus in preparation for the 2026-2027 school year. Our littles who were nervous conquered their fears and are now ready for the First Day of School!

The opening of the new state-of-the-art John F. Kennedy Middle School marks a transformative new chapter for Suffolk City Public Schools, seamlessly bridging decades of proud tradition with modern educational excellence. Replacing the original campus that first opened its doors in 1965 as John F. Kennedy High School, the new facility honors a deeply rooted history carried forward by generations of devoted alumni. From its origins of a high school and its transition to a middle school in 1990, the spirit of the "Mighty Wolverines" remains at the core of the community. The new building provides cutting-edge learning environments and advanced technology to empower today's middle schoolers, ensuring that the legacy of unity, academic achievement, and school pride built by JFK high school and middle school alumni continues to inspire generations to come.

Last Thursday, leadership development was happening all across Suffolk Public Schools! While administrative leaders gathered for our annual Administrative Leadership Retreat, a group of our students participated in a leadership retreat of their own, creating a unique opportunity to strengthen leadership across our school division.

By intentionally creating opportunities for students to grow as leaders, we are ensuring that student voice remains an important part of the work we do and preparing the next generation to lead with purpose. At SPS, leadership isn’t just about the positions we hold, it’s about developing the potential to lead in others. Together, we’re growing leaders and moving our school division forward!

Congratulations to our very own Suffolk School Board Chair Sean McGee!

Mr. McGee has been selected to join the 2026 Virginia Hunt State Policy Fellows cohort (The Hunt Institute) bringing together local leaders from across the Commonwealth to learn, collaborate, and engage in conversations focused on strengthening education and opportunities for students.

We’re proud to have Mr. McGee representing Suffolk Public Schools and bringing those valuable insights and connections back to our school community.

Congratulations on this well-deserved opportunity!
