Renaissance School of the Arts

On September 8 & 10 Renaissance School of the Arts will be kicking off our 22nd year of bringing homeschooling families together for creative and educational classes, social activities, performances, and more.

For 2026-27 we'll have more than 80 classes for ages 3 years-adults, Beta Club for 4th-12th graders, field trips, market days, spirit days, our annual World Cultures celebration, semi-formal dances, yearbook photos and other events.

Updated Tuesday and Thursday class schedules with current availability are posted below.

Please note: Improv Games, Line Dance 101, and Theater Production classes are now open to younger students; if your tween was a little too young for these before they might be in the age range now 🙂

Registration is open now - and remains open throughout the school year - but some classes are almost full, and we recommend getting signed up soon so you don't miss any of the fun.

New 🎭Theater Classes for Homeschoolers 🎭 at Renaissance School of the Arts in North Suffolk, VA.

💃STEPS OF THE STAGE: Musical Theater Dance🕺 (Ages: 10-18) Thursdays 1-1:45pm. $45/month, Sept-April.

"Steps of the Stage" introduces students of all levels to the art of theatrical storytelling: through Dance! Students will learn foundations of Character, Jazz, Ballet and Tap styles and learn choreography from iconic Broadway dance numbers. In addition to dance steps and technique, students will also learn basic acting techniques and perform character work. *This class qualifies students to participate in the Spring Production. In order to participate in the Spring Production, student will have to be enrolled in "Theater Production" starting in the Spring and pay that class's Fee (the Spring Production may include Middle and Highschool students).

🎭 THEATER PRODUCTION 🎭 (Ages: 14-18. 10-13 year olds may enroll with instructor permission) Thursdays 2-3pm Sept-Nov; 2-4pm Jan-April; $45/month. Usage Fee: $25 due in Aug. & Dec. helps cover cost of script rights, costuming, and other production-related expenses.

"Theater Production" introduces students of all levels to the many intricate processes of putting together a theatrical production, whether their interest is "in the spotlight" or "behind the scenes." In the Fall the class will focus on group acting techniques, scene work, character work, blocking, and even stage management. Then in the Spring we will put all we learned in the Fall to work to put on a mainstage production, the Spring Production. Auditions for the Spring Production will be in the Fall, and are open to students enrolled in "Theater Production," "Steps of the Stage," or another approved theater-related class at RSA. *The Spring Production will be determined based on enrolled students, available budget, and RSA's interest.

Instructor Timothy Johnson is a homeschool graduate, and holds a BA in Theater from Christopher Newport University. He has taught, choreographed, and directed students ages elementary to college in theater and dance at TADA School of Performing Arts, Summit Christian Academy, Hampton Roads Academy, and CNU. Timothy has also performed locally, both in community theater and professionally with companies like Virginia Opera, Smithfield Little Theater, TheaterCNU and The James River Shakespeare Company.

Does your child like to read and discuss books? Then this is the class for them.

🎶 Come make music with us! We will learn theory, sing, dance, and explore instruments like the glockenspiel and chimes (and maybe make our own!) This is such a fun age group for music making and the two performances are sure to be adorable 🥰 🎶

Attention all eager drivers and terrified parents!
Driver's Ed is being offered this fall, starting Sept. 15th, Tuesdays 10-10:50am. This is the classroom requirement needed to procure driver license. Having your permit to take this class is NOT required. This class offers relevant information and practice quizzes to assist with preparation for obtaining your permit.
Taught by Jeff Fuhrmann of Fuhrmann Driving Academy. It is a one-semester course.
Cost: $275/semester. Total must be paid upfront to instructor. Checks payable to Fuhrmann Driving Academy.
Mr. Fuhrmann does offer the behind-the-wheel portion year-round and schedules that on an individual basis with separate payments.
