We’re excited to announce that Dr. Faryaneh Poursardar, Research Assistant Professor, has been awarded a $100,000 Commonwealth Cyber Initiative Grant to support the collaborative project, “Adaptive Intrusion Detection in IoT Networks Using LLM-Driven Behavioral Analysis and Deep Reinforcement Learning.” This is a collaborative work with Dr. Neda Moghim with the Center for Secure and Intelligent Critical Systems, and Virginia Tech.

The research project will explore the integration of Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL), Large Language Models (LLMs), neuro-symbolic AI, and wireless networking to create adaptive intrusion detection systems for Internet of Things (IoT) networks.

Congrats! What an honor!

Dr. Sachin Shetty, Executive Director of the Center for Secure and Intelligent Critical Systems (CSICS), and Dr. Philippe J. Giabbanelli, Director of Modeling and Simulation for Health & STEM at ODU Virginia Modeling, Analysis, & Simulation Center - VMASC, have been recognized as among the top 2% most-cited scientists worldwide, according to a recent Stanford University ranking of the most influential subject matter experts.

Dr. Shetty has been on the annual list for several years, but this is the first time he has been recognized on the career list. His cybersecurity research focuses on the intersection of computer networking, network security and machine learning.

Dr. Giabbanelli joined the University this fall and among other research, he will continue a project he started with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about four years ago to evaluate interventions that can help prevent su***de in children and adolescents.
