The Power of One: Saturday Academy;One Saturday Can Make a Difference
At Suffolk Public Schools, we believe one Saturday can give a student another opportunity to learn, grow and get ahead. Through SPS Saturday Academy, our teachers and staff provide hands-on, interactive instruction and additional support tailored to students’ learning needs. Students can strengthen recently taught skills through targeted remediation, take part in acceleration and enrichment activities, and receive extra help with specific content in Virginia’s Standards of Learning. Participation may also provide an opportunity to recover attendance days. Whether a student builds confidence in one skill or discovers a new way to learn, each session is a step forward. One Saturday. One skill strengthened. One opportunity to grow. That’s the power of SPS Saturday Academy. SPS Saturday Academy for the 2026-2027 School Year begins on Saturday, October 17. Attendance Update: Let’s Level Up, Dolphin Families!

Dolphin Families, attendance matters and every minute counts!

We want to share an important attendance update from last week. We had:

147 TARDIES
235 EARLY DISMISSALS

These numbers are a significant concern because arriving late and leaving school early means students are missing valuable instructional time. Even a few minutes each day can add up to missed instruction, classroom routines, learning opportunities, and time with their teachers and classmates.

We understand that mornings and afternoons can be challenging, and we appreciate our families’ efforts to get students to school on time and keep them in school for the entire instructional day whenever possible.

Moving forward, we are asking all families to make attendance a priority:

Level Up by being at school every day.
Level Up by arriving on time.
Level Up by staying for the entire school day.
Level Up by making every minute count!

Our goal is not simply to improve a number, it is to ensure that every Dolphin has the opportunity to receive the instruction and support they need each day.
