Students in Mrs. Westfall's 3rd grade class took part in a creative writing activity where they were given a few lines of an image and had to complete a picture using as much creativity as they could. Students then had to trade papers and author a story based on the drawing they received.

Southwestern Elementary School is excited to welcome our newest Mustangs to our Little Mustang Round-Up: Early Start & Kindergarten Meet-Up!

Beginning Monday, June 8 - Friday, August 7, 2026, all schools and departments will transition to a four-day work week. Summer office hours will be Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with the following exceptions:
Facilities Department: 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Technology Department 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
The Juneteenth Holiday will be observed on Thursday, June 18th and Independence Day will be observed on Thursday, July 2nd. Therefore, all schools and departments will be closed on June 18th, June 19th, July 2nd and July 3rd.
Normal office hours will resume on Monday, August 10th.

Mrs. Bryant's 3rd graders finished the year learning about the Nansemond River Watershed with hands on activities including map skills, measuring pictures of oysters, and placing animal stickers in the correct habitat.

Mrs. Brown's class undertook a Pringles Challenge, and we are pleased to announce the winners of this engaging activity.

Mrs. Brown's students are concluding the school year with a hands-on activity, crafting salt dough maps to recap their knowledge of Virginia Studies.
