Under the Mushroom is a beloved Russian children's tale about kindness, cooperation, and helping others in times of need. During a heavy rainstorm, an ant finds shelter beneath a small mushroom. Soon, a butterfly, a mouse, and a sparrow—each soaked by the rain—ask to share the tiny space. Although it seems impossible, the animals make room for one another. Later, a frightened hare joins them while escaping from a fox, and the group protects him by hiding him under the mushroom.

When the rain finally stops, the ant wonders how so many animals managed to fit under a mushroom that had barely sheltered him alone. The answer becomes clear: while they were waiting, the mushroom had grown larger in the rain.

This simple story teaches young children the values of friendship, generosity, compassion, and teamwork. By making room for others and helping those in need, the animals discover that kindness can create space for everyone.
