✨We will always love you, Dolly✨

When my kids were itty bitty, we lived in Durham, NC and were eligible to be beneficiaries of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Like millions of children, my kids received books monthly, the first being an American classic, "The Little Engine That Could." While we have passed along most of the picture books we received, we've held on to our copy of this book and I smile every time I see the Imagination Library logo. Dolly was not only a phenomenal musician but she was a perhaps even more phenomenal person whose generosity graced so many in our country and throughout the world. Fly high, Dolly! We will always love you ✨❤️✨

✨You Are Not Alone. We See You and We are Here for You✨

On Thursday this week, I was blessed to participate in a 90-minute webinar presented by a postpartum psychosis (PPP) survivor and advocate and a reproductive psychiatrist. Aside from being incredibly informative, it felt comforting to be in a space with other healers that are both devastated by the impacts of PPP and determined to not let more women fall through the cracks.

Over the last few days, I have also been further educating myself on neurodiversity and specifically around autistic catatonia, which is often misunderstood and misdiagnosed even though it can affect up to 20% of autistic children and adults. Similar to the PPP presentation, the autistic catatonia presentations have been given by both clinicians and an autistic occupational therapist who has autistic catatonia. Also similar to the PPP, tears were shed by presenters and participants alike as we recognize both the suffering many have endured due a difficult and difficult to identify condition and felt a fire lit under us to do better by our patients and clients.

While I am walking away from both experiences with an increase in knowledge and understanding that will better help me to support those I work with and those I love in my personal life, the bigger message that I connected with is how much love and compassion exists for those struggling with medical and mental health conditions.

I want to make it clear that the majority of us who work in the medical and mental health fields have a great capacity to hold the suffering of others and we are oriented towards compassion, not judgment. I know that reaching out for help can often be the hardest step and so I want to reassure you that we see you and we are here for you.

✨Kitchen Lunges for Strength and Balance✨

As a working mom, I don't always have time for a full workout and I spend way more time sitting than I would like. One of my remedies for this is to fit in "exercise snacks" whenever I can, especially on days when I am seeing clients and/or doing a lot of paperwork. A favorite of mine are these moving lunges that I do back and forth while I'm warming my coffee, toasting some bread, etc. It may not seem like much, but sprinkling these "snacks" throughout my day helps to keep me more flexible and gives a natural mood and energy burst to keep me going when afternoon fatigue starts to set in.

Have you ever tried doing this? What are your favorite "exercise snacks"?

✨When you went to kirtan last night and can't stop chanting 😆✨

Kirtan is a call and response practice that is also a wonderful way to connect with others and experience the benefits of sound healing. Most of the chants reference a god or goddess in the Hindu or Buddhist traditions and help us connect to the energy that that god or goddess represents. As a cradle Catholic, I have always felt like kirtan helps me connect spiritually the same way that I do when singing hymns or chanting in Latin. And connecting to the energies of the gods and goddesses feels very reminiscent of praying for the intercessions of our many saints. This version of the Maha mantra, which is meant to express devotion to God/the Supreme Being, is from and it's one of my favorites!

✨New Skill: Sound Engineer✨

I've been told by multiple business mentors that opening and running a business (or two!) can be one of the biggest personal development journeys and I could not agree more! I'm currently working on something new, which required more professional recording than I have ever done and me having to edit my own recording. Something like this would have intimidated me enough in the past that I likely would not have committed to doing it. But the cool part about starting a business or other life changing endeavor is that the learning curve is steep and you often have no choice, especially as a solo owner, but to do things yourself. And I say cool because it forces you to learn to manage the emotional reactions that would normally derail you and figure out how to get over the imposter syndrome and negative self talk that could easily stop you in your tracks. So far, this project has been a little messy as I learn from my mistakes and required a lot of emotionally regulating practices when I got tripped up here and there but I also felt pretty damn good about the fact that I muddled through and was able to produce a finished product yesterday. On the day of the Lion Gate's Portal, no less 😉🦁✨

✨Sensory Reset to Come Back into Your Body✨

Having a child with sensory sensitivities, and starting to unmask some of my own, has led me to learn and think more about how stress, being busy and environmental stimuli affect us throughout the day. Once I saw how much my child benefitted from sensory resets, I started trying them out for myself and recommending them to clients and students. While there are different ways to do these, what I am demonstrating in the video is an approach that can easily be done at your desk or another quiet space in your home or workplace using items you may already have on hand. Feel free to get creative, too, if you don't have some or all of these items. A tube sock filled with rice can make a great eye pillow or weight to put over your abdomen. A folded up washcloth or bandanna can work as an eye mask. A stretchy headband pulled over your ears can help block sound.

I hope you'll give this and try and let me know what you think! 🙏✨❤️

✨Humming & the Chakras✨

Sharing a new practice that I learned recently from the amazing during a free event she put on for space holders last week. Even though she did not give a lot of explanation around this practice, I immediately loved how it felt in my body and wanted to share it with you all.

Have you tried something like this before? How does it make you feel?

✨ A Woo-Woo Friday Night✨

Having a bit of a laugh at myself after noticing that I was filling my essential oil diffuser, while looking over at my incense burner and wearing a stack of crystals on my wrist. I just need to take my dogs for our nightly walk under the moon and my night of woo will be complete 😉🌙💎

✨Sh*tali Pranayama - Cooling Breath✨

A simple breathing practice to help cool the body and bring calm to your system. Very helpful if you are feeling overheated and/or irritable! I recommend doing this breath practice for 5-10 rounds at minimum to experience the benefits. Let me know if you give it a go!
