A while back, Jake OHara (Faculty, Theatre & Performance Studies) received a message from a former student sharing how much the Broccoli Hall Drama Intersession affected her as as a young person, and ultimately impacted her long-term goals and adult life.

For this alum, our annual Drama Intersessions were transformative, empowering and life/changing experiences; through them, she discovered her own power and incredible gifts.

A beautiful sentiment for sure, but what we find most meaningful is her more recent realization she goes on to share about now understanding the profound meaning and difference she herself was making to others whilst onstage.

We are so proud of her, and so honored to share her words with you! Not only are they beautiful, but they are a testament to the power of our annual Drama Intersessions and the meaning and value they instill and the impact these all-school endeavors have on our students and the beautiful reach that that very same impact can offer others!

After an exhilarating Fall, first semester concluded yesterday with Half-Yearly Parent/Teacher Meetings.

We are so proud of the daily academic and social accomplishments our students have made over the last three months; even better though is to hear from so many parents last night that the same achievements we see at school are emerging and visible at home and in other facets of the kids’ lives.

When school is a place, education is transportive. When a school is about People, it’s transformational.

Merry Always and Happiest Everything!
Love from all @ Broccoli Hall

The Broccoli Hall Culinary Kids are busy this week preparing Julia Child’s sensational classic Soupe à l’Oignon (French Onion Soup)!

The students have learned not only how to prepare the dish itself, but also the science behind caramelization, how onions go from acidic into sweet, and why it’s important to cut onions lengthwise when using them in this recipe and others with similar cooking times!

Two versions, one traditional and one Vegan and Gluten-free, will be offered to the community with homemade bread crostinis suitable for all topping off crocks of this sumptuous feast at the end of the week! As Julia would say, “Bon Appetit!”

Corwin-Russell School at Broccoli Hall The Corwin-Russell School @ Broccoli Hall is a co-ed independent school for high-potential students 11-19, with varied learning styles, high average to superior intelligence, exceptional creativity, attentional issues, untapped interests, talents and strengths, and a disparity between innate ability and past production.

For our students, traditional approaches to education have yielded self-doubt, misperception of true worth, poor choices, and an enormous fear of failure – real or perceived.

Broccoli Hall honors differences, and thereby enables students to thrive and achieve. The Faculty are knowledgeable, dedicated, eclectic, diverse, creative, and exceptional individuals. These talents support a multi-faceted approach to learning, as a language-laden and skills-based experience merges with creativity and personality to form strong academic instruction, with a liberal dose of laughter.

Today, Group III students took advantage of our flexibility and ability to merge our academic curriculums with life experience, and merged their studies of Earth and Marine sciences with our Project FEAT exponential learning component! The Group (along with teachers Keith and Jake) spent the day with the Seals, Sea Lions and Penguins; they attended a Stingray Q&A and took advantage of additional time to get to know and learn nearly all of the sea creatures who call the Aquarium their permanent or temporary homes!

On this eve of Thanksgiving, all of us at Corwin-Russell share our extended gratitude to all of those people who have, do, and will continue to make our school the joyful, exciting, unique and extraordinary place of learning that is.

We are grateful to our students and their families for choosing us as the educators with whom to take their journey.

We are grateful to the towns and their out-of-district coordinators with whom we collaborate, as well as the many incredible advocates, therapists, school representatives and related professionals who work tirelessly to support our incredible students and our work.

We are far, far beyond grateful to you all.

You are the proof of our greatest belief: A school’s not a place — it’s people, and we give thanks to each and every one of you!

You are the people who make this place possible!

Please make a tax-deductible charitable donation to ensure that the gift of education that is Broccoli Hall will continue to celebrate remarkable kids. An unforgettable name; an unforgettable path to learning.
