Today my students asked if we could have a math pow wow… so of course we grabbed our clipboards and headed to the rug! ✏️📋

QUIZ BOWL TRYOUTS ARE TUESDAY! 📚

Quiz Bowl is a year-round, after-school competitive club open to all interested 3rd and 4th graders. If your student loves trivia, teamwork, learning new things, and a little friendly competition, we’d love to see them at tryouts!

3rd Grade Weekly Overview

CKLA: Unit 1 – Classic Tales: The Wind in the Willows

CKLA Skills: SIlent letter combinations and reading comprehension

Writing: Narrative writing

Math: Four digit rounding Mon-Wed and Three digit addition Thurs-Fri

Science: Exploring Inheritance and Traits and learning how traits are passed from one generation to the next!

🔠 CKLA Skills: We are continuing to assess (as a guide - not a grade) our story and word reading skills, as well as starting to review 1st grade standards.
🔢 Math: We are learning about using mental math strategies to subtract.
📖 CKLA Knowledge: We are assessing what we learned about Fairy Tales and Tall Tales, then moving into Early Asian Civilizations.

Important for this week:
• CKLA Knowledge assessment will be on Tuesday (8/25/26).
• Math assessment for Lesson 2 will be on Friday (8/28/26).
• Math homework will be sent home on Monday in the maroon folder — it will be due back by Friday!

1st Grade — Week of August 24

* Reading: Continue CKLA Skills 1 with reading assessment, phonics, blending/segmenting, CVC words, and tricky words.
* Math: Add and subtract within 10; practice number partners for 10 and complete a quiz.
* CKLA Fables & Stories: Finish Lessons 9–10, complete a domain review, assessment, and culminating activity.
* Writing: Continue informational writing by having students write one fact each day.

Overall focus: Strengthening foundational reading skills, addition/subtraction within 10, completing the Fables & Stories unit, and practicing simple informational writing.
