New week, new school year!
Welcome back, Nottawa Northstars!!

Today was a great start to our 2026-2027 school year. We know that the first day of school can carry so many different feelings, but it was such a delight to see so many smiling faces filling our halls again.

As we settle into our new classrooms and get this first week underway, we know there will be new routines and expectations to learn along the way. We appreciate the grace and understanding of our Nottawa families as students and staff find their rhythm together. As always, please feel free to reach out to the office or your student’s teacher with any questions or concerns.

This is shaping up to be a fantastic year, and we're so excited to be sharing it with you.

Thanks to everyone who came out last night for our Back to School Open House. It's always a good time when our community gathers together. We are so excited to resume classes this coming Monday!

As you may have noticed, the roof project is well underway. 11,000 square feet of metal roofing has been removed, and our new, low-slope roof is going on. The crew is working hard Monday through Saturday, and school is set to open on time!

Don't forget that the first day, 8/24/26, is a half day with dismissal at 11:30 a.m.

We are looking forward to another successful year of learning together, growing friendships, and making memories!

Goodbye, leaky roof!

Construction has officially begun on a new roof for our school! It may be a little noisy around Nottawa Community School over the next week, but we're grateful that Division 7 was able to fit us into their schedule.

In spite of some weather delays, we still expect to be ready for the start of the school year.

In true Nottawa fashion, we know everyone will be gracious and understanding as we work around the activity happening on our campus. We're excited to see this much-needed project underway!

As the start of a new school year quickly approaches, we wanted to share a few exciting updates happening here at Nottawa Community School!

Ms. Stryker, our current fifth-grade teacher, will be stepping into a new role as a part-time special education teacher in our growing SPED department while continuing to serve as our technology teacher for the upper grades.

We're also excited to announce that a familiar face will be joining our fifth-grade team! Mr. Falkenstein will be work alongside Mr. Scott to teach English Language Arts and Science to our newest fifth graders while continuing to serve in a part-time paraprofessional role.

We can't wait to see what the 2026–2027 school year has in store. We know it will be a year filled with learning, new friendships, growth, and countless adventures together. Here's to another great year at Nottawa Community School!

This past Friday, we wrapped up our two weeks of Summer School, and what a wonderful time it was!

Summer school provides students with a great opportunity to brush up on important skills as they prepare for the coming school year. But beyond writing, hundred charts, and letter sounds, confidence is built, and a love of learning continues to grow.

This year's theme, Pioneer Days, gave students the chance to experience history in a hands-on way. Throughout the two weeks, they made butter, toured our very own historic Stone School, and explored what life was like long ago. We wrapped up our time together with a trip to Sauder Village, where students enjoyed an immersive look at pioneer life. They learned how to make corn husk dolls, visited shops, and even got to experience a small-town jail! Seeing history come to life through hands-on experiences made for a day full of curiosity, laughter, and lasting memories.

At Nottawa Community School, we believe learning extends beyond the four walls of a classroom. We are grateful for the opportunity to help shape young minds and create meaningful experiences as our students prepare for another successful school year.

We're already into our second week of summer school at Nottawa Community School, and somehow it's already beginning to draw to a close!

This year's theme has been Pioneer Days, and as a special treat, each class had the opportunity to step back in time with a visit to our very own historic Stone School.

After being welcomed by a real school marm, Mrs.Bingaman, students took their seats at the old wooden desks, flipped through vintage McGuffey Readers, and experienced a small glimpse of what school may have been like in the "olden days" while learning about the rich history of Nottawa.

The adventure continued at the historic general store, where each student received a postcard and stamp to take home. Watching their eyes light up with curiosity and wonder as they explored these pieces of local history was a joy for all of us.

Learning comes alive when history can be seen, touched, and experienced firsthand!

Meet our new Associate Preschool Teacher!

Hello! My name is Amanda Shelton, and I am so excited to be joining the preschool team this year as an Associate Preschool Teacher!

For some families, I may be a familiar face! I previously worked here at Nottawa as a paraprofessional before taking time away to stay home and raise my family. I am so grateful for the opportunity to return and be part of this wonderful school community once again.

My husband and I are blessed with two daughters who keep life fun and busy along with our dog, Bingo. I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, and, of course, a good cup of coffee!

I look forward to helping create a safe, caring, and fun environment where children can learn, grow, and build confidence every day. I can't wait to get to know each of your children and am looking forward to a fun, exciting, and memorable school year together! 🙂

The Nottawa Farm Stand is officially open!

Last school year, our NOVA Team held a fundraiser that helped make this farm stand possible. With additional support from our amazing families and the beautiful stand handcrafted by a talented Nottawa parent and delivered by Mr. Falkenstein, we're excited to finally open it to the community.

The stand is stocked with fresh produce grown in our school garden, where students helped plant and maintain.
Currently available:
• Cucumbers
• Zucchini
• Green bell peppers
• Jalapeños
Our selection will continue to change throughout the season as more produce becomes ready. You'll find the farm stand near the school entryway.

Everything is available on a pay-by-donation basis and is first come, first served. Every donation goes right back into our school garden to purchase supplies and support future NOVA Team community outreach projects.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped turn this dream into reality. We can't wait to see how this project continues to grow throughout the school year!
