Restore Potawatomi State Park Ski Hill Restore Potawatomi State Park Ski Hill is a movement to gain community interest in restoring downhill skiing in Door County.

Currently, this is an initial public movement to gauge community interest in restoring downhill skiing at Potawatomi State Park. Goals:
-Gauge community interest
-Gauge State of Wisconsin / State Park System interest
-Identify all key stakeholders
-Determine the shortcomings of the past operation
-Understand and evaluate the old Potawatomi State Park Comprehensive Plan
-Conduct a feasibility study on restoring the ski hill

It could take a couple years, but proponent optimistic Fifteen people showed up at the YMCA in Sturgeon Bay for the first organizational meeting for reopening of the ski hill and rope tow that closed in 1998 at Potawatomi State Park. Although factors including a lack of volunteers preceded the hill....

Ski Potawatomi Minutes for meeting 1/29/24 YMCA

Attendees: Adam Pichette, Jeffrey Matson, Jamie Ellsworth, Bob Dickman, Gerald Kadow, Brent Brilla, Laura Peterson, Lynda Christoph, Micheal Hanson, Jen Kobilica, Jordan Kobilica, Lyndia Young
1) Introductions
2) Dana Wangerin explained the purpose of the committee and it’s role. Britt Brilla explained the history of the ski hill.
3) Dana Wangerin explained the perimeters set up by the State of Wisconsin to run a ski hill.
a) A business plan
b) A feasibility study
c) Amendment to the local long rang plan for Potawatomi State Park.
4) Social Media: there is a page and website for the reopening of the hill. Brian Madigan has set those up and will need to be contacted for further updating.
5) Thoughts on opening the ski hill:
a) Pole shed set-up for warming house, with outside area for parents.
b) A single rope tow
c) Snowmaking equipment
d) Snow grooming equipment
e) Volunteers will manage the hill
6) Formation of an LLC
a) 10 member board
b) 4 Officers with 6 member at large
c) 1 at large seat assigned to a high school rep, others considered to be
assigned to equipment, indoor facility, volunteers, ski patrol, hill
maintenance, etc.
d) Apply for a 5013c

- Looked at used lift options. 1000 more questions, but a fraction of the price!
