We’re excited to welcome internationally recognized mixed-media artist Judy Coates Perez to Aya Fiber Studio for a four-day immersive workshop exploring stitch as both artistic expression and mindful practice.

Through hand embroidery, mark-making, layered textiles, and personal symbolism, participants will create richly textured works that blend intuition, storytelling, and contemporary fiber art techniques.

This workshop is designed for exploration, reflection, and creative renewal in a supportive small-group environment.

Ancient paper traditions meet contemporary surface design.

We’re honored to welcome internationally recognized artist Jiyoung Chung to Aya Fiber Studio for an immersive five-day exploration of Joomchi — the Korean art of transforming handmade hanji paper through rolling, rubbing, layering, and touch.

Participants will discover how delicate sheets of paper become soft, strong, textured, and sculptural — opening exciting possibilities for paper artists, fiber artists, stitchers, book artists, and mixed-media creatives alike.

This workshop is both meditative and experimental, blending tradition with contemporary expression in a supportive small-group environment.

I will be teaching at Sanborn Mills Farm this summer in New Hampshire. August 12-16, 2026. I am very excited; it has been a very long time since I have visited this area.

I will be teaching Traditional Katazome Rice Paste Resist. We will be making the rice paste in a traditional japanese manner and using traditional tools and methods to create beautiful indigo dyed fabrics. The traditional Japanese art of Katazome is a centuries-old art form. Kata means stencil and zome is a form of the word someru, which means to dye- hence katazome (stencil dyeing).

Welcome back Valerie Goodwin to Aya Fiber Studio

We are thrilled to welcome Valerie back for Light and Lacey: Mixed Media Fiber Art Collage, an inspiring three-day workshop exploring transparency, layering, stitch, and architectural composition through luminous mixed-media fiber art.

Using transparent and semi-transparent materials, participants will discover how fabric, texture, thread, and light interact to create richly layered compositions filled with depth and atmosphere. Valerie’s thoughtful approach to structure, abstraction, and visual storytelling makes this an unforgettable creative experience for fiber and mixed-media artists alike.

Through demonstrations and hands-on exploration, students will experiment with layering techniques, translucent materials, and compositional design while developing their own unique visual language.

Since 2013, Aya Fiber Studio has built a national following for immersive fiber art workshops, Japanese indigo dyeing, shibori, surface design, stitching, and mixed media experiences.

Excited to welcome NEW instructor Daniel Essig to Aya Fiber Studio for a remarkable exploration of sculptural book arts, translucency, texture, and storytelling through handbound books.

In this immersive workshop, participants will create and fill a handbound book using the timeless elegance and strength of the Coptic binding structure. Fine papers and translucent mica sheets become layered spaces for treasures, imagery, memory, and narrative — transforming the book into an intimate sculptural object.

Students will explore both natural and manmade mica while learning its unique properties, working back into the pages to construct niches, alcoves, and secret spaces that invite discovery and interaction.
