🐾💡What the Wildcats are Learning💡🐾

Our district is committed to providing our Wildcats with opportunities to not only explore their interests, but also to introduce them to career pathways where they can apply those interests. A reflection of that commitment is our recent 5-star state rating for College, Career, Workforce, and Military Readiness.

Last month SHS Wildcats explored career pathways at the Skilled Trades Expo at the Canfield Fairgrounds. Students mingled with trades professionals and even tested their skills in various trades. Take a look at our Wildcats at work:

“What is a nonsense word?"
"How can I improve my child's vocabulary?"
"Can you explain the 'Science of Reading'?"

📚These are common questions parents have during their child's early literacy journey. This year's Raising Readers series will focus on answering those questions and providing tips and tricks we are using in our classrooms to Raise Readers the Wildcat Way!

📚Tune in every month as we share a new literacy find: Something worth knowing, trying, or thinking about. We will share resources you can use at home with your young reader.

✨We will see you soon for "Raising Readers"!

The Struthers Rotary is helping third-grade teachers and students prepare for Ohio state testing by providing a set of math flash cards to every third-grade student! The generous donation also included word flash card sets for each third-grade classroom. We are grateful for the continued support of our community!

We welcome Ms. Macy O'Brien to the Wildcat Team as a paraprofessional. Ms. O'Brien loves diamond art and watching her kids' sporting events when she's not working with our Wildcats. Welcome!

🐾💡What the Wildcats are Learning💡🐾

Last week SMS students participated in Governor DeWine's statewide "Dolly Day". "Dolly Day" is a tribute to Dolly Parton's indelible contributions to childhood literacy and her commitment to putting books in the hands of children everywhere.

Our students participated in the "Drop Everything and Read” activity at 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon. During this activity, every student stopped what they were doing and read silently for 15 minutes. This simple activity was a great reminder that literacy is the foundation of all learning (and a great brain break).
