2010 State Champion Streator Zips

Okay, here's the scoop: At 4 p.m. Saturday at Owens Field, there's going to be an SHS Alumni softball game. During the 7th-inning stretch, we'll be recognized as State Champs from Streator, along with the 10-year-old All-Stars currently competing for the State title. PLEASE BRING YOUR ZIPS PANTS! In return, you'll get your birth certificate. Look for a call from Coach Missel in the next day or two.

Leave August 7th open on your calendars. I'm told we're going to be recognized that day. Not sure of the details.

The Kalamazoo Maroons (a team we never saw, let alone faced) is headed to Texas after beating out the Ann Arbor Travelers for the Mickey Mantle Regional championship.

Final: Michigan (Ann Arbor) Mustangs 9, Streator Zips 1. Tough lefty pitcher, good sticks, and we did not play our best. We're now eliminated from the Regional tourney, but we still come home tomorrow as state champions.

Tough loss to Moline, 4-3. Very disheartening. But, our players are still capable of coming back. Game tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. EDT. Time to eat pizza and take a cool dip in the pool after a long, hot day in the sun.
