Daedalus warns Icarus not to fly too close to the sun because it will melt the wax of the wings, but Icarus ignores his father. He flies higher and higher, until the heat from the sun melts the wax, and Icarus falls into the sea and drowns. After finding Icarus’s body in the sea, Daedalus buries him on the nearest island, which he names Icaria in honor of his son.
