Things my clients text me at 11pm:

"Is this weird tingling pain at the top of my belly normal?"

I mean, if your skin stretching to the literal point of tingling and numbness is normal... then yes. Absolutely. Your body is doing something incredible and also completely unhinged.

"I haven't pooped in four days."

Magnesium, friend. Magnesium. I'm not going to make you wait for this answer. Then hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

"My legs are so swollen."

Yes. In this heat, after being on your feet all day, your legs can and will transform into stuffed sausages. This is your season. Invest in some Crocs and make peace with it.

"It feels like the baby is going to fall out at any second."

They won't. And honestly? If they did, you'd be one of the luckiest women alive. That's the dream scenario.

"I felt a weird zap in my cervix."

Lightning crotch. That's a real term and I use it with a completely straight face. It's rude. It's normal.

"How do I know if my water broke or if I p*ed?"

The sniff test, friend. Does it smell like p*e? Then congratulations, it's p*e. If it doesn't and it smells slightly sweet, call me.

"My toddler keeps jumping on my belly. Is that going to hurt the baby?"

Your baby is in a fluid-filled fortress specifically engineered to withstand big brother's antics. Baby's fine. But maybe encourage some gentleness for YOUR sake. You are not a trampoline.

"Should I be leaking colostrum all over my shirt? And my bed? And my partner? And apparently my dog?"

Congratulations. Your body is a functional dairy operation and it's opening early. Good sign. Get some pads for your bra.

"Everyone keeps telling me my belly is huge." / "Everyone keeps telling me my belly is too small."

People need to stop discussing the size of pregnant women's bodies. Full stop. Your belly is perfectly gestationally appropriate and everyone else needs a hobby.

"Is it normal to hate my husband's chewing this much?"

Yes. Hormones have turned you into an apex predator with supernatural hearing. He's fine. You're fine. He should probably eat in another room.

"Can I PLEASE have a turkey sandwich from Jersey Mike's?"

Here’s the thing nobody tells you: Listeria doesn’t only live in deli meat. Bagged salads and pre-cut fruit have caused outbreaks too, and nobody’s warning you off the spinach. So weigh the risk, weigh the benefit, and decide if you want the sandwich. Your body, your baby.

"Sorry to text so late."

Never apologize. This is the job. This is literally why you have my number.

Here's the thing about these texts.

Every single one is a woman lying awake, wondering if what she's feeling is normal, with nobody to ask.

She could Google it and spiral. She could wait three weeks until her next appointment. She could just... worry about it silently and lose sleep.

Or she can text her midwife at 11pm and get a real answer from someone who knows her, knows her pregnancy, and genuinely doesn't mind. My goal is for you to feel well supported and this is part of that!

That's the whole point. 💚

Things your midwife says in labor and what you actually hear:

"Just breathe through it. Blow out like you're blowing out a candle."

(Said while the baby is actively crowning. I am attempting to blow out a candle while what feels like a watermelon is exiting my bu****le. Breathing is not currently available to me.)

"Drop your shoulders and let everything from your head to your toes just loosen up."

(My insides are currently being squeezed in a mechanical vice. But sure. I'll just loosen up.)

"You're safe and you're doing such a great job."

(I am in fact not doing a great job. I am fairly certain I am dying. These feel like different things.)

"You CAN do this. You're almost there and the only way out now is through."

(At this point I have no choice. That's not encouragement, that's just math. And honestly? A little brutal.)

"This looks like early labor. The best thing you can do right now is rest."

(Said as my midwife tucked me into my own bed and handed me sleepy herbs. I'm sorry. EARLY? This cannot be early. I refuse to accept early. Early is not possible right now.)

"You really need to try and eat something to keep your energy up for pushing."

(The thought of eating anything ever again is offensive to me. I have decided this baby is never coming out and food is no longer part of my life.)

"Why don't you snuggle up with your husband and get some oxytocin flowing to help pick up those contractions?"

(Ma'am. Have you seen me? I am a sweaty, leaking, enormous human who currently feels the opposite of romantic. My husband is also a little scared of me right now. Snuggling is not on the table.)

"Your body was made for this."

(Cool. My body and I are having a serious conversation after this is over.)

"Every contraction is bringing your baby closer."

(This is technically true and also completely unhelpful right now.)

"You're almost there."

(You have said this four times in the last two hours. We need to discuss what almost means.)

And then the baby arrives.

And suddenly every single thing we said was true.

You were safe. You did do a great job. You could do it. You were almost there.

Your body WAS made for this.

And it was worth every single second.

May has only just begun, but 2026 sure has been a doozy.
We have encountered so many variations in pregnancy, labor and postpartum and it surely has kept me on my toes.
And just when I begin to feel the weight of it all, the Lord reminds me in so many ways that we are right where He wants us.
Dear friends/clients, I hope you know what a gift it is to walk alongside you. Because your stories are often woven into my story, and what a beautiful thing that is.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9

The blood still works. 🙌🏻

Jesus didn’t just die for your sins, He became a curse so you no longer had to be under the curse of the law.

In Deuteronomy 28, the curse of the law was laid out clearly:
sickness, poverty, fear, oppression, barrenness, defeat, and ultimately death…but Galatians 3:13 says Jesus became that curse for us!!

I think it’s easy to accept things during seasons like pregnancy and postpartum because they have been so normalized!!

I made up my mind that I will never speak anything but victory over myself in these seasons because Jesus paid it all!
