We worked with SMFHS Bulldog athletes today to create Valentine messages for Operation Valentine. Our valentines will be sent to members of the military who are stationed overseas.

It's MOVING WITH THE FLASHES DAY! We thank Mrs. Courtney Rutan, our PE teacher, for once again coordinating with Kent State University Athletics to bring KSU athletes and PE students to Fishcreek for a fun activity day. We appreciate the time and energy the athletes and students shared with us! Our students had a great time!

Fishcreek Elementary partnered with Piper’s Key and Megan Higgins last May to create a Disability Awareness Week. With the generous gift of books from Piper’s Key, a local charity founded by Dr. Jessica Hoefler, we created videos of various district employees reading the books aloud. The story of Piper’s Key may be found at https://piperskey.com/. In addition, our PTA sponsored a visit from Adaptive Sports Ohio, whose staff members taught every student (and some staff members) how to play wheelchair basketball. Mrs. Megan Higgins spent time with all of our students in their classrooms to read her book, Super Special Magic Shoes, in which she shares the story of her daughter’s journey with leg braces.

Mrs. Higgins recently returned to Fishcreek to gift our library a bookshelf to display books about disabilities. The shelf was an Eagle Scout project built especially for the Piper’s Key program.

We look forward to partnering with Mrs. Higgins again this May as we plan our Disability Awareness Week.
