The Friends of Stoughton Public Library (SOLA, the Support Our Library Association) join everyone in mourning the passing of beloved music, acting, literacy, and philanthropy icon Dolly Parton. As proud partners of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Stoughton, we share Dolly’s commitment to our community’s future by investing in families reading to their children. Dolly understood the importance of literacy like few others as a child of an illiterate parent and as someone who achieved her childhood dream of fame and fortune through the power of her words. We are grateful that her legacy as the Book Lady will live on in the Imagination Library. Please consider a donation to Imagination Library in Dolly’s memory; your earmarking your donation for our Stoughton branch will allow local children to continue to receive their very own books in the mail each month as Dolly intended. In the meantime, we echo others’ recommendations to read and gift books to those you love, especially children, as a way to keep Dolly’s spirit with us. We are deeply grateful to have shared a timeline with Ms. Parton and hope that memories of her extraordinary talent, generosity, and kindness are a comfort to her family, friends, and fans.
