Play Is Serious Learning!

Learning Starts Earlier Than You Think! Long before babies say their first words, they are learning how communication works.

Social-Emotional Learning Happens All Day. Children are not born knowing how to share, manage frustration, join a group, or solve a disagreement.

When toddlers pretend to cook dinner, care for a baby doll, run a store, or fix something with toy tools, they are doing much more than playing.

Pretend play helps children build vocabulary, practice social interactions, work through real-life experiences, and use their imagination. It also gives them opportunities to take turns, solve simple problems, and see the world from another person’s perspective.

Safety Creates the Freedom to Explore. Children are most confident when they feel safe, secure, and supported.

At Academy Childcare Center, our teachers maintain consistent routines, age-appropriate environments, careful supervision, and established health and emergency practices. Staff members are trained in first aid and CPR, and children participate in developmentally appropriate safety routines.

Safety is not about limiting exploration. It creates the secure foundation children need to try new things, move confidently, and engage fully in their day.

Learning Does Not Stop Because of the Weather! New England weather can be unpredictable, but children still need opportunities to move.

When outdoor play is not possible, our large indoor gym gives children room to stay active. Teachers can plan movement games, obstacle courses, climbing activities, balance challenges, and other gross motor experiences in a safe indoor environment.
Active play supports coordination, strength, confidence, focus, and overall well-being. At Academy, movement remains part of the day in every season.
