Marcela Santos Ferreira, a PhD student in the UConn Department of Nutritional Sciences (advisor: Dr. Catherine Andersen), took home 2nd place in the poster competition for her outstanding research presentation at the CAHNR Graduate Student Research Forum.
Her work examines the effects of egg consumption on immune cell function. Marcela did a great job presenting her research with clarity and enthusiasm.

In less than a year with the Department of Nutritional Sciences, Mary has already made such a positive impact. She’s been busy creating tools that make planning, tracking, and day-to-day work easier for everyone—from a classroom utilization calculator to a streamlined system for managing graduate assistant data.
What really stands out is how generously she shares her ideas and helps others work more efficiently. Her creativity, teamwork, and can-do attitude truly make a difference not only in the department but across CAHNR.

🎉 Exciting news from the CAHNR Graduate Student Research Forum!
Nathan Jordan, a PhD student in the UConn Department of Nutritional Sciences (advisor: Dr. Clinton Mathias), earned 2nd place for his outstanding oral presentation, where he shared novel mechanistic insights into the role of mast cells in food allergy.
Nathan delivered a confident, engaging presentation and did an excellent job communicating complex science to a broad audience.

We’re proud to celebrate Claire Gallagher, a junior majoring in Nutritional Sciences at the University of Connecticut, for presenting her research at UConn Frontiers 2026!
Claire delivered an outstanding presentation on her study exploring the effects of blackcurrant consumption on obesity-induced liver disease. Her ability to clearly communicate complex scientific findings reflects both her dedication and the strength of undergraduate research in Nutritional Sciences.
