Today, on MartinLutherKingHoliday.com we talk with the Connecticut Autism and Language Lab-CALL group about their work in ensuring that families from traditionally underrepresented groups are included in research, receive better services, and that there is equity in access to care. Six major domains were identified in their review: the patient-provider relationship, cultural or protective factors, family impact of a diagnosis, stigma, the causes and course of autism, and awareness of the realities of autism. Thank you to Karla Rivera Figueroa and Dr. Inge-Marie Eigsti for their time to explain what the community, in partnership with funding organizations, can do in this area.
