Thank you so much, Raul and Yusdelmis of R & Y Hairstyles Salon, for offering to cut the hair of the students in my classroom at Storm Lake Early Childhood! We had so much fun! The kids LOVED getting their hair cut! Raul and Yusdelmis were so good with the kids and made each child feel comfortable while the students were in the chairs with them! The enjoyment is evident by the smiles on their faces! Thanks again, Raul and Yusdelmis! 🫶

We have a new favorite robot! We loved learning how to code with the iRobot Root Robot today! Thanks to the Iowa Governor's STEM Advisory Council and NW Stem Region for providing the STEM Scale-Up grants to allow us to have these amazing resources in our classrooms!

CHILD CARE DISCUSSION SET FOR MARCH 11

The public is encouraged to attend a Storm Lake Child Care Community Conversation, scheduled for March 11, 5:30 p.m., at King’s Pointe Resort, 1520 E. Lakeshore Drive.
The event will be an important opportunity for parents, employers, providers – and everyone who is interested in the future of child care in the community.
Addressing a child care shortage is a top goal set by the Storm Lake City Council for 2024. The City of Storm Lake was able to secure a grant that has allowed for a comprehensive market analysis of the child care situation in Storm Lake to be completed. That study will be a key tool in developing additional child care in the form of a child care center or more in-home care options. A Storm Lake Child Care Committee has been formed to help guide that effort.
The Child Care Community Conversation on March 11 will include the final presentation of the market analysis, and a strategic plan and goals moving forward that have resulted from the study. The presentation will be made by leaders of First Children’s Finance, the experienced, Iowa-based company that has conducted the market analysis. The presentation will be followed by an opportunity for questions and answers.
“Hopefully, hearing the data and the plan to move forward will help generate excitement and create some immediate community buy-in to set a plan in motion,” said Angie Rae Duncan of FCF.

BV Naturalist Katie from Buena Vista County Conservation came to see three of the classrooms at Storm Lake Early Childhood. She taught us about the five animal groups and brought us animals we could touch and explore! Thanks for coming to see us, Katie! We are excited to see you again in February!

We rescheduled the firefighters to come today and they were called out to a fire. The kids were really excited to see them though! Hopefully, we'll have a different day to see the fire truck! Thank you, Storm Lake Fire Department, for coming and bringing us hats, coloring books, and stickers!
