As we approach Independence Day weekend and the celebration of Americaβs 250th anniversary, the Stony Point Fire Department would like to take this opportunity to remind our neighbors about fireworks safety.
Projectile style fireworks and those related devices including firecrackers, bottle rockets, roman candles, spinners and aerial devices, remain illegal in our Stony Point community and statewide.
Sparkling devices are legal to enjoy, but remember to emphasize safety. Sparkling Devices are ground based or handheld devices that produce a shower of colored sparks and or a colored flame, audible crackling or whistling noise and smoke.
There are many great, commercially produced fireworks displays planned for the upcoming days and weeks, including Friday July 10th here in Stony Point. Leave the fireworks to the professionals and help us keep the community safe.
Have a great July 4th!

On Wednesday, June 24, at 7:56 AM, the Congers Fire Department was dispatched to Vitane Pharmaceuticals at 125 Wells Avenue for a reported commercial structure fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke emanating from the building's entrance. Crews quickly determined that the building was unoccupied at the time of the incident. The facility manufactures vitamins and dietary supplements, and due to the nature of the food grade chemicals stored inside, the Rockland County HazMat Team was requested to respond.
During firefighting operations, a significant explosion occurred, resulting in a partial collapse within the building. As a result, the surrounding area was evacuated as a precaution. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. First responders remained on scene for approximately 14 hours, working to extinguish the fire, mitigate hazards, and ensure the area was safe.
The Clarkstown Police Department Detective Bureau Fire Investigations Unit is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

Today, our firefighters took part in the Stony Point PAL Bike Safety & Touch-A-Truck Event at Charles S. Eccher Park.
Despite the very hot weather, we had a great time showing off one of our fire engines, meeting members of the community, and sharing important fire and life safety information. Events like these give us the opportunity to connect with our residents and continue strengthening the relationship between our department and the community we proudly serve!
