The Department of Political Science’s International Relations Speaker Series event “Will Iran’s Feminist Revolution Succeed?” scheduled for Wednesday, February 22 has been postponed to a later date.

We will plan a future discussion to include an inclusive panel of speakers representative of Iranian people who will bring diverse perspectives to the topic.

Historically, this Speaker Series has been well received, and we look forward to its continuance.

We value the exchange of ideas, thoughtful disagreement and debate, and civil discourse. As an inclusive community, we will not encroach on the rights of others, either as individuals or as groups, and will never fail to respect our differences.

Human Rights Workshop: Panel discussion on forced migration

With the massive numbers of people in recent years forced to leave their homes in search of security from war and persecution, it’s worth re-examining the current international frameworks on migration. Are our current legal regimes and structures up to the challenge of welcoming and integrating millions of people at a time? (For example, does it make sense to process individual political asylum cases when millions are in danger?) How are current cases around the world bumping up against these structures? Is it reasonable to accommodate possible backlash among certain segments of the population in the arriving countries? And what innovations to current legal structures are possible?

This week, International Horizons showcases an interview by RBI and EU Studies Center director John Torpey with political scientist Ivan Krastev about how Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will affect the balance of power in Europe, transatlantic relations, and the future of democracy. Dear colleagues and friends of the Institute for Globalization Studies,

Today, April 27, 2022, is Stony Brook's Annual Giving Day. Last year, more than 3,700 alumni, faculty and staff, students, parents, grateful patients, and friends participated in Giving Day.

Today we are asking you to consider supporting the Institute for Globalization Studies on this year's Giving Day. Our interdisciplinary BA program in Globalization Studies and International Relations (GLI) provides tomorrow’s leaders with vital perspectives on "the world" with large and critical opportunities for students to concentrate in their areas of expertise and future employment. Your support will enable the Institute for Globalization Studies to invite practitioners to teach courses and educate our students beyond the classroom–to deeply connect and learn from an array of experts in the greater New York metropolitan area.

If you are not in a position to make a donation at this time, please help us spread the word. Thank you!
