The CEWIT Team was proud to host our 3rd Annual High School Hackathon, welcoming nearly 130 students from 15 Long Island school districts.

Co-hosted with the Office for Research and Innovation at Stony Brook University and sponsored by Verizon, this year's theme asked students to tackle a critical challenge: how to keep systems running when the world goes offline. Teams collaborated to design and pitch real-world solutions, from emergency response tools to offline communication systems, using AI-powered technologies like NVIDIA Jetson developer kits.

Congratulations to all of the winners at the Office for Research and Innovation at Stony Brook University's inaugural Brook & Beyond Challenge!

This two-month long flagship innovation program brought together 8 cohorts led by Stony Brook University faculty members who pitched breakthrough technologies in clean energy, advanced materials, medicine, and environmental engineering.

On Wednesday, June 6, CEWIT hosted Ace AI for a tech demo of their AI chatting app Glimo, a product developed to support employees by facilitating smooth internal communication to reduce employee turnover and improve mental health and employee training. Presented by CEO Yoshinao Hasunuma, the app utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Positive Psychology to solve communication issues and make the workplace more creative.

In attendance of the tech demo was Center Director Rong Zhao, PhD, Senior Research Scientist Manoj Mahajan, Ph.D., and Senior Software Engineer Tianyun Ling.

The CEWIT team is looking forward to future collaborations with Ace AI.

Congratulations to Stony Brook University and its partners on the completion of the first-ever geothermal energy series.

Organized by Workforce Development Manager Derek O'Connor, the 10-week series provided a comprehensive platform about the challenges and knowledge of the geothermal energy industry.

On Thursday, April 10, CEWIT hosted the second annual High School Hackathon, welcoming thirteen Long Island high schools to compete in a six hour hackathon.

This year we welcomed students from Baldwin High School, , Kings Park School District, Longwood Central School District, Levittown Public Schools UFSD, MacArthur, Mineola, Mount Sinai School District, Plainview-Old Bethpage School District, Port Jefferson School District, Rocky Point Schools, Syosset Central School District, Three Village Central School District, and Westhampton Beach School District high schools. The students worked in teams and completed a series of challenges created on CodeHS by CEWIT Engineering Manager Christopher Lange, Software and Data Science Analyst Zachary Lerman, and Senior Software Engineer Tianyun Ling. The teams received prizes ranging from gift cards to Stony Brook University merchandise and received a tour of the CEWIT building, including a walkthrough of the Reality Deck from PhD student Zainab Aamir.

Congratulations to Derek O'Connor, Workforce Development Manager at Office for Research and Innovation at Stony Brook University, for putting together another incredible high school hackathon. Calling all gamers!

Stony Brook University Recreation and Wellness will host its Esports Summer Clinic beginning this July. The clinic will feature four one-week sessions where students will receive training to improve their skills in Overwatch 2, Rocket League, League of Legends, or Valorant.

In addition to improving gameplay, the coaches in the clinic will teach the importance of balance through health and fitness training, ensuring players develop both mentally and physically for long-term success in esports.
