Pine Point School Pine Point School is an independent Pre-Kindergarten through 9th grade day school in Stonington, CT

Pine Point School is a dynamic collaboration of our exceptional faculty and staff, students, parents, alumni and the greater community. From the earliest stages of learning, we cultivate meaningful social and emotional growth, and provide a rich, rigorous, and personalized college-preparatory environment. Arts, athletics, service learning, and technology are integral components of our developmentally appropriate curriculum. Inspired by our word of the week, GLOW, PreK-O/ TK students used their knowledge about the pumpkin life cycle to put visual cards in order—then with some glowing magic, figured out if they were correct! We continue to *glow* with curiosity!

I wonder what you could shine a light on—or help glow—so we can better understand an idea or a person? 💡
This week’s Word of the Week, Glow, is all about the power of discovery.
From watching morning sunbeams glow through the woods on campus to exploring how scientists use light as a switch to map brain cells through optogenetics, light helps us notice what we might have otherwise missed.
When we shine a light on someone else’s work, feelings, or ideas, we build a deeper, more connected community. ✨

I wonder where I can shift my focus from just getting it done to giving it my best effort? 💡
That’s the community challenge our Head of School shared with all Pine Pointers during All School Morning Meeting as we dive into our fourth and final core value: Excellence.
At Pine Point, excellence isn’t about a grade, a trophy, or achieving perfection. It’s about the effort we bring to learning and growing every single day.
Excellence in action means:
Focusing on progress over perfection: Striving to grow rather than worrying about a flawless result.
Building a daily habit: Choosing to show up, stay engaged, and put in our best effort consistently.
Learning from setbacks: Recently, young students built a tall block tower that suddenly tumbled down. Instead of giving up, they paused, figured out why it fell, and tried a new strategy using balance and placement. ✨
When we shift our focus from “just finishing” to “giving our best effort,” mistakes turn into stepping stones.

I wonder why showing integrity can be tough, and what we can do to make the right choice easier? 🤔
That’s the community challenge our Head of School posed to all Pine Pointers during Morning Meeting this week as we focus on our next core value: Integrity.
Rooted in the idea of being whole and honest, integrity comes down to three key practices:
1. Doing the right thing when no one is watching: Choosing what is right, even when there are no immediate consequences or recognition.
2. Making the inside match the outside: Ensuring our actions and behavior align with our words and values.
3. Building trust: Every time we practice integrity, we show others they can rely on us—strengthening our entire school community.
Doing the right thing isn’t always the easy path, but it’s how we build character and trust every single day.
