There’s a moment in coaching no one prepares you for...
Right depth only happens when capacity is there first.

This is one of the most important distinctions in professional coaching:
knowing when to slow down and where to listen.

For many years, I worked in leadership development, doing what I was trained to do well.
Clarifying goals.
Supporting growth.
Helping capable people step into more of themselves.
And still, something didn't settle.
Leaders would grow.
They would gain insight.
They would genuinely care.
And then, six months later, the same patterns that were holding them back would return, time and time again.
Not because they weren't trying.
Not because the coaching wasn't good.
But because something underneath was generating this pattern.
And I realized I was participating in something I never intended:
The hope-despair cycle.
The one where clients arrive so hopeful… finally, the help they've been craving for their dreams.
They engage fully.
They make progress.
They feel momentum.
And then, a few months later, they crash back into the same stuck feeling. Old patterns re-emerge
Not because they failed… and here’s the missing part…
It was because we were working at the wrong depth.
At the wrong layer of their pattern
.

Most coaches sense this long before they can explain it. The Hierarchy of Pain gives language for what’s actually happening beneath repeating patterns.
We will be teaching this framework in a live workshop for coaches!

At InCorr Coaching, we begin with SETI, a system for being Safely Embodied Trauma Informed: the understanding that your body isn’t just responding to the moment, it’s guiding you.
Your nervous system is full of data, wisdom, (and it craves safety!)
It’s part of your inner compass; the deeper orientation system that helps you sense when you’re leaning in too far, when you’re bracing, when you’re present, and when something in you wants to soften…or defend.
