Project Based Learning (PBL) gives John McCandless students many exciting opportunities to discover the ways science impacts the environments and communities that surround us. Last week, 3rd Graders started their first PBL unit with a walking field trip to the Calaveras River. Students wrote down what they noticed about their local waterways, and they'll use these notes to continue studying biodiversity and ecosystems.

John McCandless welcomes all families to share their joy and creativity with this community. Our annual Tie-Dye Night is an opportunity for students, parents and guardians to meet JMC staff while creating bold blue and green shirts that show their school spirit. We're thankful for the support of all who attended our beloved Owl tradition last night!

Our 3rd Graders are investigating the John McCandless mascot: owls! Mrs. Marriott's and Mr. Manzo's classes have already learned how owls digest their food and why small animals in their environment are disappearing. Today, 3rd Graders dissected owl pellets to look for bones and other remnants of the animals owls eat to survive.

Our 8th Graders have enjoyed Owl-mazing experiences together in their classes, at field trips and during after-school events throughout their time at John McCandless. Yesterday, we recognized the leadership and commitment to hard work they have brought to this campus while celebrating the bright future ahead of them. We appreciate all the supportive families who gathered for our 8th Grade Promotion, and we're excited to see how our Class of 2026 will succeed in high school and beyond!

Kindergartners improved their STEM skills, completed creative hands-on projects, and shared meaningful memories with their friends this school year. Today in the Owls' Nest, our Kindergarten classes sang songs for JMC families before speaking to the crowd about their favorite moments from this year and their dream jobs when they grow up.

Congratulations to our future 1st Graders on completing Kindergarten!
