Our 8th Graders have enjoyed Owl-mazing experiences together in their classes, at field trips and during after-school events throughout their time at John McCandless. Yesterday, we recognized the leadership and commitment to hard work they have brought to this campus while celebrating the bright future ahead of them. We appreciate all the supportive families who gathered for our 8th Grade Promotion, and we're excited to see how our Class of 2026 will succeed in high school and beyond!

Kindergartners improved their STEM skills, completed creative hands-on projects, and shared meaningful memories with their friends this school year. Today in the Owls' Nest, our Kindergarten classes sang songs for JMC families before speaking to the crowd about their favorite moments from this year and their dream jobs when they grow up.

Classified employees play a variety of vital roles helping students and families here at John McCandless and throughout our district. To recognize the start of Classified School Employees Week, our had a variety of pastries to choose from, and our Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) Miss Cam received some special gifts for SLP Day.

We'd like to thank all the generous leaders and friends of our community who presented their professions at John McCandless! Last Friday, our students enjoyed getting hands-on examples of career paths including medicine, music and carpentry.

Plants spread their seeds all around us to keep wildlife growing in our environment. Today, a generous visitor from the World of Wonders Science Museum visited JMC to show 2nd Graders how seed dispersal works. Our students used paper cups and balloons to create a tool that could shoot plant seeds into soil similarly to many of the flowers we see outside!

Owls: Dream big and explore the possibilities of your future at Career Day! Next Friday, May 15, we will welcome many generous community partners to JMC for a hands-on informational event. Students can speak with professionals about their career paths and become better equipped to pursue their own ideal careers.

Curiosity and creativity are forces for good here at John McCandless! Our students and staff were proud to welcome parents and families to JMC for our annual Force Museum last night. Owls demonstrated all they've learned in their STEM studies while presenting engaging projects for all ages, including bottle rocket launches, reports on Native American history and influential people, and student artwork.

Our music students are excited to bring you their final concerts of the school year! This Saturday, May 9, the JMC Middle School Band will perform at Lincoln High School at 8 AM as part of the NCBA Large Ensemble Festival. And next Tuesday, May 12, we invite families to join us in the Owls Nest for the Spring 2026 Band Concert.

At next week's event, Beginning Band starts at 6 PM, while Intermediate and Middle School Band will play at 7 PM.

For the past decade, JMC has been a place for quality STEM education, engaging hands-on projects, and community-building events for all ages. Last Thursday, Owl families joined us for this school's 10th Birthday Bash with art activities, live entertainment and games for all. Here's to 10 more years of special memories for everyone here at JMC!

Career Day is an essential opportunity for Owls to learn about the many jobs they can find to pursue their dreams and positively impact the lives of others. On Friday, May 15, we welcome parents and community members to share information about their careers with our students!

Presenters will sit at a table to talk briefly about their profession, describe what a typical day in their job looks like, and answer students' questions.
