Lessons are always one-on-one for both beginners and semi-advanced piano players. Private lessons provide 100% attention to the student during his or hers lesson time. Lessons are given at my home in the Ewa Beach. I accept students starting from ages 3 years old and up (child must be able to count from 1-5 and recognize their alphabets from A-G). For students starting at age 3-6 we use Music for
Little mozarts, then we used Alfreds basics Lesson 1A (ages 7+) then we use all levels of Piano Adventures. After finishing levels 1-5 theory and lesson books of "Piano Adventures" I move on to training the student to play Classical music pieces. Please keep in mind that All students learn differently, so sometimes it takes a while for a particular student to go through one book a good amount of time one book is about 3.5 months. "Hanon- The virtuoso Pianist" for finger exercises is used once student is ready. REQUIREMENTS: At the first lesson please bring a notebook that will be designated for piano lessons, this is where I will be writing down their assignments. The student must have it next to to them during practice time so that they do not practice the wrong thing. I will expect for the parent to be sure the child practices at least 30 minutes per weekday, weekends will be up to you as a family. For younger students practice time is less and we talk about it at the first lesson, but more practice is better. If the student is not practicing at all or isn't showing enough initiative to advance I will decide if piano lessons will continue or not. My piano lessons aren't just for fun, we have a goal to reach such as playing a nice piece for yearly recitals. Practice is very very important in order to advance, it does not matter how many lessons a student has had, if they do not practice they will NOT advance. BOOKS are to be ordered by parents when I tell them to please do not wait too long to order them because they take a while to get to Hawaii. There are recitals at least once a year, once the student has been with me for a year participation in the recital is a requirement. CANCELLATION / RESCHEDULING/ TARDINESS: If for any reason you will need to cancel or need to reschedule (2 reschedules permitted per month) please let me know no later than 12:00pm of the day of the lesson. If not, the FULL tuition amount of that day will be charged. Please understand that this is my only job and source of income and my time is very valuable, when someone does cancel I use that time as a "'make up" lesson for another client but if the cancellation is too late I am unable to ask for another family to come and take that spot as a make up lesson. If you are late, I am not required to make up the missing time. But if for any reason I forget about a lesson appointment (very rarely happens, I do make mistakes sometimes and apologize in advance for it) that one lesson will be FREE of charge. TUITION: The whole months tuition is due at the first lesson of the month. For example if you take 1 30 minutes lesson a week which is $20 each and there are 4 lessons for the month the first lesson of the month you will pay $80. I accept Facebook messenger payments (its free to use), cash, or checks payable to THERESA CUMPLIDO. However, if your check bounces you are responsible for the bounce fee notification put on my bank account and also still paying the full amount of tuition. If you forgot your check or cash please come back the next day or the same day of the lesson to pay. DO PARENTS HAVE TO SIT IN DURING LESSONS?: It is up to you if you want to sit in during the lesson or not, all children learn differently when parents are present or not (some are nervous when their parent is present, while some are totally okay if their parents are around). If you do chose to just wait outside for the duration of the lesson and something happens, for example they have an attitude or are giving me a hard time I will require for you to sit in during the session. If you have other children who are not taking lessons please be sure they do not cause a disruption to us during lessons, please take them outside if they are too noisy. HOUSE RULES & BRINGING SIBLING OR OTHER CHILDREN WITH YOU DURING A LESSON: If you have other children or are bringing your childs friend with you to sit in during the lesson, please be sure that they do not cause a disturbance, no one is allowed to run around the house or walk around please just stay in the designated piano area. Please no jumping, or screaming in the living room there is a family living downstairs and it gets really loud when someones jumping and running in the living room, and it causes a disturbance to the student and I.
