University of the Pacific's Conservatory of Music is launching five new degree programs, marking one of the school’s largest academic expansions in decades as it continues a period of rapid enrollment growth.

The new offerings include a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre and four graduate programs: Master of Music in Performance, Master of Music in Jazz Studies, Master of Music in Conducting and a Master of Music in Voice Pedagogy.

The programs will enroll their first students in fall 2027.

As rates of Type 2 diabetes continue to climb nationwide, University of the Pacific Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy Professor Roshanak Rahimian is investigating how exercise may protect blood vessels and improve metabolic health during the progression from prediabetes to Type 2 diabetes.

A new four-year, $526,590 grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), may help her find the answer. Rahimian’s research will explore how different exercise intensities may help prevent or reduce the vascular complication of diabetes and whether those effects differ between males and females.

Congratulations to Pacific Men's Basketball head coach Dave Smart, named to the Canada Basketball Hall of Fame. The John Wooden of Canadian collegiate basketball, Smart won 13 national titles during his 19 seasons at Carleton University (Official) in Ottawa. He will be inducted into the HOF in New Brunswick on Aug. 20 prior to the start of his third Pacific Athletics season.

Nearly 220 students in the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry received their white coats this past Saturday, July 18, symbolizing their transition from simulation-based education to providing hand-on care in the school's clinics.

The White Coat Ceremony has been a cherished Dugoni School tradition since the mid-1990s, when it became the first dental school in the nation to introduce the rite of passage.
