The last two weeks at Durham Ferry looked a little different every day.

Fourth graders came for The Great Hike. High school students trained to become outdoor education leaders.

Families explored the trails together.

WorkAbility students visited to learn about future work opportunities.

And Stanislaus State College Corps fellows gathered to kick off their year of service.

Different ages. Different reasons for being here. One outdoor space creates opportunities to learn, lead, connect, and belong.

⭐ Transforming the Teaching and Learning of Mathematics ⭐
TK–8 educators are invited to a two‑part professional learning series focused on strengthening students’ number fluency and flexibility across whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Build routines and strategies that accelerate unfinished learning and support success in grade‑level mathematics.

Kids need time outdoors. Time to explore, move, get dirty, notice wildlife, try something new, and learn in ways that don’t always happen inside a classroom.

At Durham Ferry Outdoor Education Center, field trips give students a whole day to learn outside, surrounded by the river, trails, and open space.

Because some of the best learning happens outdoors.

It is almost robotics season! We are so excited for students to get started building, coding, and competing again! We also have an opportunity for teachers to do the same. Our RECF Robotics Hackathon is a chance for teachers to try out the new competition field, test their robots, or try working with ours. We'll discuss California Computer Science Standards, VEXCode, and the new competition. Food is provided and so is a $125 stipend. We hope you'll join us September 14, from 5-7PM at the SJCOE FabLab. Thank you, Devin Cardozo, for an incredible year at Durham Ferry Outdoor Education Center. You brought curiosity, kindness, and a steady presence to every program. Students looked forward to seeing you; staff appreciated your willingness to help wherever needed; and your positive attitude made each day a little better. ✨ This past Saturday was a great day of learning with Peter Liljedahl, author and researcher of Building Thinking Classrooms. Educators from within and beyond San Joaquin County dived into lesson design and practices that elevate student thinking.

📈Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed. Your commitment to creating spaces where students think, collaborate, and reason drives this work forward. We hope the momentum from Saturday will carry into the year as we continue building classrooms where every learner’s thinking is visible, valued, and strengthened.
