Did you know, if you live in the Stockton School district and have a child that is at least 3 months old – 5 years old they are eligible for a free developmental screening, 1 time per year, by our Parents as Teachers Program. A screening will help you understand where your child is developmentally and learn of resources available to help with any delays. When you become aware that your child is on track to start kindergarten with no delays, it brings peace of mind to you, and if we do discover a delay, you will be given resources to help your child at home or in our early childhood program. We will be starting with 3-year-old screens in March. Follow the link below to register and we will contact you.

The young child’s brain is a marvel of potential, capable of rapid growth, learning, and adaptation. It is the foundation of future emotional, cognitive, and social development, making it our greatest asset in shaping resilient, thriving individuals.

However, this same capacity for growth makes it highly sensitive to adverse experiences.

Trauma, neglect, and toxic stress can disrupt its development, leaving lasting imprints.

By understanding and nurturing this vulnerability, we can harness the incredible potential of a child’s brain to create a healthier, more compassionate future for all.

It’s not the big things we do. It’s the small, every day moments of co-regulation, building trust, and security that develops a brain to reach its full potential.

We won’t get it right every time, in fact, our kids need us to mess up sometimes so they learn how to recover.

With this knowledge, we must prioritize the mental health of babies with high quality care and relationships based in attachment, no matter where they spend their day.

According to science and research, in the first 5 years of life, positive experiences and warm, responsive relationships stimulate children’s development, creating millions of connections in their brains. In fact, children’s brains develop connections faster in the first 5 years than at any other time in their lives. This is the time when the foundations for learning, health and behavior, throughout life, are laid down. The everyday things he does now help shape how she thinks and learns in the future. Here are some things you can do to help your child make the most of her early learning experiences. Expose your child to experiences that use all of his senses. For example: if he loves trains he can play with trains, look at books about trains, draw trains, visit museums to learn about old trains and go on a train ride. If your child is learning her phone number, make up a song with the number in it, have her hop while she says the number, copy the number on index cards and put them around the house, have her trace the number in a shallow tray of sand or flour.
