My dad struggled all through school. He didn't know that his problems were caused by dyslexia. He didn't learn about dyslexia until he was in his fifties. He got some special tutoring and improved his skills, especially in spelling. He learned some things he should have learned in school but never did because the teaching is not suited for dyslexics. When I told him that I wanted to start a tutoring business he sent me a link for the Barton Reading and Spelling System and wrote, "You should teach this." So that was the start of the wonderful process of learning to help people with dyslexia. Because I have homeschooled all eight of my children tutoring fits naturally with my love of teaching children one-on-one.
